Ivory Coast
Even as mutineering Ivorian soldiers return to the barracks on Monday, a cache of weapons was seized in an up market neighbourhood in Ivory Coast’s second largest city, Bouake.
This after 4 days of mutiny last week by the discontent soilders over financial demands.
According to French news portal RFI, the weapons were discovered near a residence which is close to that of Ivorian National Assembly speaker, Guillaume Soro.
The assorted arms included Kalashnikovs and it is said they were brand new.
Souleymane Kamaraté the director of protocol for speaker said that they are assisting Ivorian authorities in an investigation into the matter.
The discovery of the weapons has raised eyebrows in the country which is seen as a beacon of economic prosperity in French- speaking west Africa.
Analysts say that the threat of social unrest still looms in the country.
The National Assembly speaker a former rebellion leader against former Ivorian president Laurent Gbagbo, was in the spotlight last year after a report released by the United Nations accused him of smuggling 300 tons of weapons into the country between 2010 -2011, but he has denied the claims.
